What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash is the term used to describe an injury of the neck and upper spine that occurs when the body experiences a rapid forward and backward movement, similar to the crack of a whip. The action can cause damage to the disks, muscles and ligaments of the upper spine that results in neck pain, headaches and limited movement. Dizziness and numbness in the arms can also occur. In some cases, memory problems, ringing in the ears, blurred vision and sleep problems may also be a result. If the injury is severe, the symptoms may become chronic.
